/ASOS/ PROGRAM WILL BE REACHED ON SEPTEMBER 18... 1996 WHEN THE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE /NWS/ AND THE FEDERAL AVIATION
ADMINISTRATION /FAA/ COMMISSION THE FAA-SPONSORED ASOSS AT:
 
LAWRENCEVILLE-VINCENNES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT /KLWV/
LAWRENCEVILLE... ILLINOIS
 
LONDON-CORBIN AIRPORT - MAGEE FIELD /KLOZ/
LONDON... KENTUCKY
 
NEW ST GEORGE AIRPORT /KAPB/
ST GEORGE ISLAND... ALASKA
 
   THE COMMISSIONINGS WILL OCCUR AT APPROXIMATELY 1800UTC.  THIS
WILL BRINGTHE TOTAL NUMBER OF COMMISSIONED ASOSS TO 314 /211 NWS
SITES AND 103 FAA SITES/.  COMMISSIONING OF THESE SITES MEANS
THAT THE ASOSS WILL PRODUCE AUTOMATED... AROUND-THE-CLOCK SURFACE
AVIATION OBSERVATIONS.
 
     THE NWS FORECAST OFFICE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE SITES... AS
WELL AS THE ASOS OPERATIONS AND MONITORING CENTER /AOMC/ IN
SILVER SPRING... MARYLAND... WILL MONITOR ASOS PRODUCTS AND
COORDINATE MAINTENANCE ACTIONS AS NEEDED.  NOTE: BECAUSE ASOS
OBSERVATIONAL FORMATS ARE DIFFERENT FROM MANUAL OBSERVATIONAL
FORMATS... AUTOMATED DECODER PROGRAMS MAY REQUIRE SOFTWARE
MODIFICATIONS.
