PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...CORRECTION 2
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HEADQUARTERS WASHINGTON DC
200 PM EST TUE NOV 1 1994

TO: NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE (NWS) OFFICES, FAMILY OF
SERVICES (FOS) SUBSCRIBERS, NOAA WEATHER WIRE SERVICE
(NWWS) SUBSCRIBERS, OTHER NWS PRODUCT USERS

FROM: DONALD WERNLY, CHIEF, WARNING AND FORECAST BRANCH

SUBJECT: WILMINGTON (ILM), NORTH CAROLINA WEATHER SERVICE
OFFICE'S SHORT-FUSE COUNTY WARNING AREA EXPANDS...
          EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 1, 1994.

...CORRECTION TO SEPT. 30 AND OCT. 3rd CORRECTION STATEMENT FOR
AFOS/NWWS IDENTIFIER FOR COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENT AT THE BOTTOM OF
TABLE 3. ALL OTHER INFORMATION REMAINS THE SAME...

Effective Thursday, December 1, 1994 at 10 a.m. Eastern Standard
Time, the National Weather Service (NWS) will transfer short-fuse
warning responsibility for eight counties in northeast South
Carolina TO the Wilmington (ILM), North Carolina Weather Service
Office (WSO) From the Weather Service Forecast Office (WSFO) in
Columbia (CAE), South Carolina and FROM the WSO in Charleston
(CHS), South Carolina (Table 1). For those counties, WSO ILM
will issue short-fuse warnings products (Table 2) and related
products that give follow-up information on warnings (Table 3).
For holder of NWS Operations Manual C-47, County Warning Areas,
this transfer is the 45th update for 1994.

Because of this county warning transfer, subscribers to the NOAA
Weather Radio Wire Service (NWWS) and the Family of Services
(FOS) must take appropriate action to receive the short-fuse
warnings and related products for these eight counties using the
ILM identifier (Tables 2 and 3) instead of the CHS and CAE
identifiers. For example, if you have been receiving severe
thunderstorm warnings using the product AFOS/NWWS identifier
CAESVRCAE or CAESVRCHS, you will have to change your product
identifier to RDUSVRILM. The Universal Generic Codes (UGC),
however, will remain unchanged.

NATIONAL TECHNICAL INFORMATION MESSAGE 94-47
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HEADQUARTERS
200 PM EST TUE NOV 1 1994

TO: USERS OF NWS' Eta MODEL

FROM: FRED ZBAR
            ACTING CHIEF, SERVICES DEVELOPMENT BRANCH

SUBJECT: CHANGE TO THE OPERATIONAL Eta MODEL, AFFECTING
CALCULATION OF CONVECTIVE AVAILABLE POTENTIAL ENERGY
            AND CONVECTIVE INHIBITION

(THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED BY MICHAEL BALDWIN, NMC
DEVELOPMENT DIVISION)

At 1200 UTC on November 1, 1994, a change was made to the Eta
Model code. This change fixes a code error involving the
calculations of the convective available potential energy (CAPE)
and the convective inhibition (CINS) made in the post-processing
routines of the Eta Model. The error was found to be an incorrect
calculation of the temperature along a moist adiabat for a lifted
parcel. This change will only affect the CAPE and CINS output
fields.

Please call Geoff DiMego at (301) 763-8056 if you have any
questions.
