SUBJECT: INTRODUCTION OF SEPARATE PRODUCT FOR PROBABILITIES OF
          HURRICANE/TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS

Beginning today, July 1, 1994, the probability of
hurricane/tropical storm conditions shall be issued, as needed,
in tabular form as a separate product. The new products, STRIKE
PROBABILITY FORECAST, are available on AFOS under identifiers
cccSPFATx, where ccc is your local node identifier and x = 1
through 5. The corresponding WMO headers for these products are
WTNT71-75 KNHC. For NWWS users, the identifiers are MIASPFAT1-5
and NFDSPFAT1-5 (for backup). Previously, such information had
been appended to public (AFOS category TCP/WMO headers WTNT31-35
KNHC) and marine (AFOS category TCM/WMO headers WTNT21-25 KNHC)
advisories. The probability information shall be issued at the
regularly scheduled public advisory times, as needed, and when
special public advisories are issued.

Landfall probabilities generally will be issued for all named
storms forecast to be within 72 hours of landfall in the Atlantic
basin. In addition, the National Hurricane Center may issue
probabilities for tropical depressions forecast to become named
storms and be a threat to land within 72 hours.

Probabilities will be computed for the following locations:

Brownsville, TX Fort Pierce, FL
Corpus Christi, TX Cocoa Beach, FL
Port O'Connor, TX Daytona Beach, FL

SUBJECT: RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST
OFFICE'S SHORT-FUSE COUNTY WARNING AREA EXPANDS ON
          SEPT. 1, 1994

Effective Thursday, September 1, 1994 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern
Daylight Time, the National Weather Service (NWS) will transfer
short-fuse warning responsibility for ten central North Carolina
counties TO the National Weather Service Forecast Office (WSFO)
in Raleigh (RDU), North Carolina FROM North Carolina Weather
Service Offices (WSO) in Greensboro (GSO), Charlotte (CLT), and
Wilmington (ILM). Table 1 lists the ten counties and the
appropriate Universal Generic Codes (UGC).

The short-fuse warning products are listed in Table 2 and the
related statements that provide follow-up warning information are
listed in Table 3. For holders of NWS Operations Manual Chapter
C-47, County Warning Areas, this transfer is the 27th update in
1994 of the latest chapter issuance.

Because of this county warning transfer, subscribers to the NOAA
Weather Wire Service (NWWS) and the Family of Services (FOS) must
take appropriate action to receive the short-fuse warnings and
related products for these ten counties using the RDU identifier
(Tables 2 and 3) instead of the GSO, CLT, and ILM identifiers.
For example, if you have been receiving severe thunderstorm or
tornado warnings from the counties listed in Table 1 using the
AFOS/NWWS product identifier RDUSVRGSO or RDUTORCLT, you will
need to change the product identifier to RDUSVRRDU and RDUTORRDU,
respectively. The Universal Generic Codes (UGC), however, will
remain unchanged.

SUBJECT: KANSAS CITY MISSOURI WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE'S SHORT-
FUSE COUNTY WARNING AREA EXPANDS ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1994

Effective Thursday, September 1, 1994, at 8:00 a.m., Central
Daylight Time, the National Weather Service (NWS) will transfer
short-fuse warning responsibility for 10 counties in Missouri and
one county in Kansas TO the Kansas City (MCI), Missouri Weather
Service Office (WSO) at Pleasant Hill FROM the St. Louis (STL),
Missouri Weather Service Forecast Office (WSFO), the Columbia
(COU), Missouri WSO and the Topeka (TOP), Kansas WSFO (see
Table 1). For the affected counties, WSO MCI will issue
short-fuse warnings (Table 2) and follow-up information on the
warnings (Table 3). For holders of NWS Operations Manual Chapter
C-47, County Warning Areas, this transfer is the 28th update in
1994.

Because of this transfer of county warning responsibility,
subscribers to the NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS) and the
Family of Services (FOS) must take appropriate action to receive
the short-fuse warnings and related products for these 11
counties using the MCI identifier (Tables 2 and 3) instead of the
STL, COU and TOP identifiers. For example, if you have been
receiving severe thunderstorm warnings using the AFOS/NWWS
product identifier of STLSVRCOU or TOPSVRTOP, you will have to
change the identifier to STLSVRMCI. However, the Universal
Generic Code (UGC) will remain unchanged (as shown in Table 1).

SUBJECT: HASTINGS, NEBRASKA WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE'S SHORT-FUSE

COUNTY WARNING AREA EXPANDS ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1994

Effective Thursday, September 1, 1994, at 8:00 a.m., Central
Daylight Time, the National Weather Service (NWS) will transfer
short-fuse warning responsibility for six counties (Table 1) in
north-central Kansas to the Hastings (GRI), Nebraska, Weather
Service Office (WSO) from the Goodland (GLD), Kansas, WSO and the
Concordia (CNK), Kansas, WSO. For the affected counties, WSO GRI
will issue short-fuse warnings (Table 2) and follow-up
information on the warnings (Table 3). For holders of NWS
Operations Manual Chapter C-47, County Warning Areas, this
transfer is the 29th update in 1994 of the latest issuance.

Because of this transfer of county warning responsibility,
subscribers to the NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS) and the
Family of Services (FOS) must take appropriate action to receive
the short-fuse warnings and related products for these six
counties using the GRI identifier (Tables 2 and 3) in place of
the GLD and CNK identifiers. For example, if you have been
receiving severe thunderstorm warnings using the AFOS/NWWS
product identifier of TOPSVRCNK or TOPSVRGLD, you will have to
change the AFOS/NWWS identifier to OMASVRGRI. However, the
Universal Generic Codes (UGC) will remain unchanged (as shown in
Table 1).

SUBJECT: TOPEKA (TOP), KANSAS WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICE'S
SHORT-FUSE COUNTY WARNING AREA EXPANDS, EFFECTIVE
          SEPTEMBER 1, 1994

Effective Thursday, September 1, 1994, at 8:00 a.m., Central
Daylight Time, the National Weather Service (NWS) will transfer
short-fuse warning responsibility for six counties in
north-central Kansas to the Topeka (TOP), Kansas Weather Service
Forecast Office (WSFO) from the Concordia (CNK), Kansas Weather
Service Office (WSO) (see Table 1). For the affected counties,
WSFO TOP will issue short-fuse warnings (Table 2) and follow-up
information on the warnings (Table 3). For holders of NWS
Operations Manual Chapter C-47, County Warning Areas, this
transfer is the 30th update in 1994 of the latest issuance.

Because of this transfer of county warning responsibility,
subscribers to the NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS) and the
Family of Services (FOS) must take appropriate action to receive
the short-fuse warnings and related products for these six
counties using the TOP identifier (Tables 2 and 3) in place of
the CNK identifier. For example, if you have been receiving
severe thunderstorm warnings using the AFOS/NWWS product
identifier of TOPSVRCNK, you will have to change the AFOS/NWWS

product identifier to TOPSVRTOP. However, the Universal Generic
Code (UGC) will remain unchanged (as shown in Table 1).

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HEADQUARTERS WASHINGTON DC
300 PM EDT FRI JUL 1 1994

TO: NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE (NWS) OFFICES, FAMILY OF
SERVICES (FOS) SUBSCRIBERS, NOAA WEATHER WIRE SERVICE
(NWWS) SUBSCRIBERS, OTHER NWS PRODUCT USERS

FROM: DONALD R. WERNLY, CHIEF, WARNING AND FORECAST BRANCH
