NATIONAL TECHNICAL INFORMATION MESSAGE 94-13
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HEADQUARTERS
120 PM EDT FRI MAY 6 1994

TO: ALL NWS OFFICES, DOMESTIC DATA SERVICE SUBSCRIBERS,
FAA USERS AND THE FAA WEATHER MESSAGE SWITCHING
            CENTER

FROM: MARY C. NEWTON
            ACTING CHIEF, SERVICES DEVELOPMENT BRANCH

SUBJECT: IMPLEMENTATION OF 216 NEW STATIONS FOR NGM MOS
            GUIDANCE

(THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED BY J. PAUL DALLAVALLE OF
THE TECHNIQUES DEVELOPMENT LABORATORY.)

Effective with the 1200 UTC cycle on May 11, 1994, 216 additional
stations will be available in the alphanumeric products
containing the NGM-based MOS guidance for the contiguous United
States. This guidance will continue to be distributed under WMO
header FOUS14 KWBC and the FWC category on AFOS.

The NGM-based MOS guidance is currently available for 313
stations. The addition of the new stations will increase the
spatial coverage of available information. No changes will occur
in the format of the message itself. Guidance will continue to
be available for the 6- through 60-h projections. Also, as is
done currently, the message will be prepared twice daily around
0400 UTC and 1600 UTC and will be based on the 0000 and 1200 UTC
forecast cycles, respectively, of the NGM.

Technical Procedures Bulletin (TPB) No. 408 entitled "NGM-Based
MOS Guidance - The FOUS14/FWC Message" describes the contents of
the message and lists the stations for which NGM MOS guidance is
transmitted. The recently revised Appendix to TPB No. 408, dated
March 25, 1994, contains the expanded list of stations for which
NGM MOS guidance will be available.

For AFOS users, an AFOS Change Notice, which includes the list of
the new stations, and the AFOS identifiers, will be transmitted
in the next week or so. In addition, Family of Services users
will receive a General Notification (GENOT) message (WMO header
NOUS40 KWBC) regarding these changes in the same time frame.

Users of the FOUS14 message are referred to the aforementioned
TPB and the Appendix dated March 25, 1994, for further
information on the message format and for the new list of
stations which will be available in the FOUS14/FWC. Copies of
either of these documents are available from:

     W/OM23
