Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.
Hail fellow netCDFers! In version netcdf-4.9.0 (way back in the innocent days of 2022), new compression features were introduced: quantization and zstandard compression. Quantization allows users to set the number of significant bits to be retained for floating point numbers. Excess bits are compressed. Zstandard compression is like zlib, but faster. I would be very interested to hear from users who are using these features. Are they working well? I would be interested in both good and bad experiences with these new features. Thanks, and keep on netCDFing! Ed Hartnett
