Hi Dan,

NOAA NCEI has put together some great documentation and examples on using
CF conventions for various types of observation data. Take a look at their NCEI
netCDF Templates page <https://www.nodc.noaa.gov/data/formats/netcdf/v2.0/> for
the details.
