[netcdfgroup] Recover a NetCDF-4 file after a system crash

Is it possible to recover a NetCDF-4 file after a system crash?

My system crashed while a NetCDF-4 file was open for writing. The file has an unlimited dimension which is used by all variables in the file. According to ncdump, the value of this dimension is 0 hence none of the variable data are available. The actual value of this dimension is definitely not zero (the file is several GB in size).

FAQ (http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/docs/faq.html) has instructions for recovering files in the classic and 64-bit offset formats. Would something similar work for a NetCDF-4 format?

Thanks!
