Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.
A new version of Ncview, the netCDF visual browser, is now available for downloading. In practice, if you use netCDF files, I think you will find Ncview a useful tool; it does not replace your big analysis package, it supplements it by providing an extremely quick and easy way to visualize your data. You can animate the data, look at it along various dimensions, make line plots, etc., just by clicking a few buttons. Version 1.72 fixes a bug in the printing; if you have an older version and ever use the print feature, please upgrade immediately. It also adds two features that are extremely useful: 1) You can now select the axis along which to make a line plot; 2) Continental overlays are now available, useful for plotting atmospheric fields (you can also easily make your own custom overlays for whatever purpose). Ncview is available from: http://meteora.ucsd.edu:80/~pierce/ncview_home_page.html If you encounter problems compiling it on your machine, please contact me -- they are usually easy to solve, and then we can fold the changes required for platforms I don't have access to into the main distribution.
