Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.
I have found, by experimentation, and by just following the code, that netCDF is rather non-robust when run under low memory conditions (i.e. with a high probability of malloc failing). This is a problem, because it usually ends up in a "core dump" in Unix, or a system crash in DOS. In Unix, this usually goes unnoticed, thanks to virtual memory. However, in DOS the results are rather catastrophic, your computer usually going out to lunch. Are there any future plans to improve the robustness of the code for low-memory conditons? Any patches out there? Thanks, Carlos. --- Carlos A.
