Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.
The following is to announce the availability of a beta version of a netCDF file reader module for SGI's Iris Explorer 2.0. The module, ReadDF, is capable of simultaneously reading multiple variables from netCDF (or HDF!) files and outputting them as Explorer lattices. It can handle any netCDF data type, any number of dimensions and will translate dimension variables into all three Explorer coordinate systems. Multiple variables can be combined in a single Explorer lattice to produce vector data. A friendly user interface controls it all and provides netCDF file browsing capability. ReadDF was developed as part of the PATHFINDER project at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and is based on the MFHDF library (the one that merges HDF and netCDF) also from NCSA. How to obtain ReadDF: ReadDF is freely available via anonymous ftp: FTP to: ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu then look in: /SGI/PATHFINDER/Explorer/General please see the README files there the module is contained in: ReadDF.tar.Z for help send email to: pathfinder@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------------- David Wojtowicz Atmospheric Sciences Department and National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign email: davidw@xxxxxxxx phone: (217)244-1982 --------------------------------------------------------
