I would be very interested in something like this as well. Specifically, code that can take an arbitrary ucar.nc2.ft.FeatureDatasetPoint and generate a CF(-1.6?) NetCDF file as described in https://cf-pcmdi.llnl.gov/trac/attachment/ticket/37/CFch9-feb25_jg.docx?format=raw.
