All,
With the awful news that Unidata's funding has been frozen and staff are going
on furlough starting Monday, I wanted to let you all know that UW-Madison AOS
can be used as a backup should data issues arise at Unidata.
UW-SSEC has a NOAAport ingest dish that they are graciously allowing me to pull
data from as a backup. I am not positive yet, but I think they also have the
SATELLITE GRB data feed available as well. My IDD relays are currently feeding
from Unidata servers, but I will fail over to the SSEC servers should Unidata
experience issues. We ingest CONDUIT gridded model data direct from NOAA, so
unless they go down, our CONDUIT data feed should still be there.
Also - thanks to a Unidata Equipment grant in 2024, we have a THREDDS server
(thredds.aos.wisc.edu<https://thredds.aos.wisc.edu>) that is intended to serve
the same array of data that is on thredds.ucar.edu. There may be differences,
as Unidata does a better job of keeping up with data changes than I do, but
that is a resource that is intended to be available to the Unidata community,
so please feel free to make use of it.
Please contact me if you'd like to get an ALLOW on my idd relays. The site to
point to would be idd.aos.wisc.edu
I sent this to Unidata support and the ldm-users and UAlbany MAP email lists..
if there are other places/people who would benefit from our THREDDS server or
an IDD relay, please feel free to pass this along.
Pete
