Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.
Ashton, I had not gotten around to replying yet, but I also would be willing to provide an ldm data feed. Let me know which data feeds you're interested in (sounds like mostly NEXRAD2 or NEXRAD3?) and I can get you set up with an ALLOW on my end. Hopefully, this is temporary, but it is quite concerning. The community will be able to continue to operate for a while on its own distributing data for now, but this can’t be indefinite if funding isn’t restored in a timely fashion as nobody will be managing things from the top level, updating software, fixing bugs and maintaining relationships with the govt agencies that originate the data. (those same agencies facing their own substantial eviscerations). That aside, you should be aware of what you are asking for. (apologies in advance if you are already well aware of what you are doing). Depending on which products you are pulling, you can easily keep a 1Gbs line fully saturated with LDM traffic almost around the clock. If you pay for business class internet service and can dedicate the bandwidth, that should be fine. With typical home internet service on the other hand, even if it advertises sufficient speeds and unlimited* capacity, you may run into trouble as you may fall outside of typical home internet usage patterns and trigger clauses in the fine-print that allow them to throttle you or demand you switch to business class. You may well have already received a direct message from another member offering to host your access, if not, let me know and I can. --- David Wojtowicz, Coord of IT and Research School of Earth, Society and Environment (SESE) University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign davidw@xxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:davidw@xxxxxxxxxxxx> +1 217-333-8390 From: ldm-users <ldm-users-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> On Behalf Of Ashton Arnold Sent: Tuesday, April 8, 2025 8:02 PM To: ldm-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ldm-users] Request for IDD Access for EDEX Server Hi Unidata Support, My name is Ashton Arnold, and I’m running an AWIPS EDEX server from my home network. I would like to request access to the IDD to ingest real-time data, especially NEXRAD Level III products such as DMD (Digital Mesocyclone Detection), for use with CAVE. This is part of a self-directed meteorological project focused on severe weather analysis and radar interpretation. My use is strictly for personal research and skill development. The data will not be redistributed. Here are the details: * IP: 98.16.123.153 (home-based static public IP) Purpose: Educational / independent meteorological research LDM Version: Latest (installed as part of the current EDEX release from Unidata) Please let me know if you need any additional information. Best regards, Ashton Arnold
