Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.
The GeoColor data formerly on the IDD has been discontinued for IDD delivery. The intense processing and research that went into the product was carried out external to Unidata at CIRA/CSU, and was delivered for IDD inclusion for the use of NWS offices. That processing can now occur at the individual NWS offices, and resources to continue the generation of GeoColor are no longer available. The ability to create GeoColor images is provided by the delivery of the constituent channels of GOES data on the IDD and via SBN ground stations. For instance, this peer reviewed article provides the algorithm for creating a "true" color image in the absence of a green channel: https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2018EA000379 Another source is from the authors of GeoColor: https://journals.ametsoc.org/downloadpdf/view/journals/atot/37/3/JTECH-D-19-0134.1.pdf These publications are provided to enable receivers of IDD data, or SBN data from a ground station, to create their own version of a "GeoColor" product. - Stonie Cooper, PhD Software Engineer III NSF Unidata cooper@xxxxxxxx
