Karen,
I'm not a member of the ldm-users group, but could
you post this message for me?
thanks
Lak
I was forwarded a couple of emails on a thread of WDSS
that's been going on in this group. What follows are my
observations, and should not be assumed to be actual
NSSL or OU policy (I'm not too clear on all the
intellectual property ramifications of this).
NSSL/OU have stopped supporting WDSS (even at the NWS).
Current development efforts are oriented towards
WDSS-II:
http://cimms.ou.edu/~lakshman/WDSS2
which builds upon WDSS in that it deals with multi-radar
data besides single-radar data, and can optionally
incorporate information from other sources including
surface observations, mesonets, cloud-to-ground and
LMA lightning, satellite, etc. There are many more
algorithms in WDSS-II than the SCIT, HDA, MDA and TVS
algorithms available in WDSS. An almost complete list
is here:
http://cimms.ou.edu/~lakshman/WDSS2/algdoc/
WDSS-II is being made available free for research use.
Some private companies, to my understanding, are using
WDSS-II through cooperative research agreements with NSSL.
The University of Oklahoma is trying to come up with
some mechanism for making WDSS-II available to commercial
organizations.
