LDM on a semi-exposed host?

Does anyone at NCAR run LDM on a semi-exposed host? We're considering running LDM on a semi-exposed host for the purpose of relaying data between our internal LDM host and some external LDM servers.
We'd like to know if there are particular security precautions we should take.
