Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.

I'm using the latest version of the IDV (2.9u2). Is there a way to display more than one parameter on a cross-section; isotachs and wind barbs, for example? Am I missing something obvious?
You can use the Transect View to do this. See: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/idv/docs/workshop/page_transectviews.html
Also, I read that the vertical coordinate cannot be changed (it's typically a pressure coordinate). That would definitely be very useful as I am currently having to use other software for the sole purpose of displaying cross-sections.
That's true. Don -- Don Murray NOAA/ESRL/PSD and CIRES 303-497-3596 http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/people/don.murray/
