Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.
Hi Steve,
I am loading up post-processed WRF data and want to use the flythrough capability. 1. Do I need a plugin or does 2.8u1 already have everything? 2. the pdf user's guide portion on setting up a flythrough is really brief and I didn't succeed. Are there other sources (written tutorial/webcast) where I could get spun-up? 3. the import XML file (with points listed) is another way to go, but again, it was too brief -- I didn't see a format in the user's guide. Where could I find this?
This is a pretty new facility in the IDV. There is some documentation here: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/idv/release/nightly/docs/userguide/misc/Flythrough.html but it doesn't touch on the format that can be externally defined. The easiest way to create a track is with the IDV Drawing Control. Draw a polygon and, from its properties dialog you'll see a start flythrough button, (or by doing control-F for the selected polygon).
You can export the points from the Flythrough dialog File->Export menu. Its a simple xml format that could then be edited.
You can also manually add a point with the Flythrough dialog Edit->Add Point. This includes the viewpoint matrix of the 3D view. This kind of point can also be exported but the matrix format is not readily readable.
