Thank you very much for your responses! 

I made a .cdl format file from one of the original netcdf files, hope this 
helps to see the structure of it. I deleted most of the values from the .cdl 
file, see attached.

What is the data look like in the original netCDF file?  Can you send
along a dump of the header?

And if I understand, what you want to do is convert the data from this
netCDF file into a spreadsheet or ascii text file?
