yes, I can access the file trough the browser and I have a network
proxy. I am also trying to understand how to work it around. But

I just downloaded IDV version 1.2 on my Mac OS X 10.4 laptop and
I see that I am not able to connect to any of the data servers,

If you can access this via your web browser perhaps you have a
network proxy? If you do and you cannot work
around the proxy get back with us and we'll figure out how to
configure a proxy (there is a Java runtime command line way of
doing this but right now I cannot seem to get it to work).
