good source for old gempak model grids?

Hi, all - was wondering if anyone had a good source for gempak-formatted (or other) model forecasts for older cases? The Iowa State archive is fantastic for surface and upper air historical files, but I have a student working on some older things for which model grids don't exist there. I'm looking in particular for December 1972, prior to NARR runs. Thanks in advance.
