As you may have heard or read, changes to the IDD NIMAGE Datastream were
made that have an impact on how GOES 16/17 datasets are disseminated.
Information specific to those change are outlined on our blog [1], and were
posted to several of our email lists. As a result, users of thredds.ucar.edu
who access GOES East/West data will notice a few changes, specifically a
restructuring of the satellite catalog [2], and a change to data access
URLs.
Data Access URL Changes
The following describe the data access URL changes. The examples are for
GOES 16, and can be applied to GOES 17 by replacing 16 with 17 in the
"previous" urls, and east with west in the "current" urls. A list of
possible values for <SERVICE>, <SENSOR>, <PRODUCT_NAME>, <DOMAIN>, and
<CHANNEL> can be found at the end of this message.
1. Level 2 Products.
Previous:
/thredds/<SERVICE>/satellite/goes16/GOES16/Products/<PRODUCT_NAME>/…
Current:
/thredds/<SERVICE>/satellite/goes/east/products/<PRODUCT_NAME>/…
2. GOES Rebroadcast Datasets
Previous:
/thredds/<SERVICE>/satellite/goes16/GRB16/<SENSOR>/
Current:
/thredds/<SERVICE>/satellite/goes/east/grb/<SENSOR>
*** Special note: If you were accessing ABI data (Sectorized_CMI) from
NOAAPORT, i.e.:
/thredds/<SERVICE>/satellite/goes16/GOES16/<DOMAIN>/<CHANNEL>/
these are now available at
/thredds/<SERVICE>/satellite/goes/east/grb/ABI/<DOMAIN>/<CHANNEL>/
In this case, the file names you used to see will change. Previously, they
looked like:
GOES16_Mesoscale-2_20190619_181031_13.30_2km_36.8N_86.1W.nc4
Now, for consistency with other GOES data and products, these will use
mission standard file names, such as:
M6C01_G16_s20191580001446_e20191580004219_c20191580004267.nc
