Howdy Data Curation List!

Thanks to everybody that has signed up thus far, hopefully we can make this list useful for all!

So to kick off the first topic, I am interested in how folks figure out where newly found METAR sites are located. I suspect that most of you have some workflow that alerts you to when new sites show up in the data stream. How do you go about figuring out where this new site is located?

For example, the site GMNM has appeared in the feed every once in a while since at least 2012. It looks strange to appear in a product with FM** sites

SAMG20 FMMI 302200
METAR 302200Z

METAR FMCH 302200Z NIL=
METAR FMMT 302200Z 24006KT 9999 VCSH SCT017 BKN033 19/18 Q1019=
METAR GMNM 302200Z 00000KT 9999 FEW040 SCT100 21/17 Q1017=
METAR FMSD 302200Z 00000KT 9999 FEW016 BKN033 19/17 Q1021=

My question is more mechanistic than explictly wondering about this site. What do you do when you find a new METAR site in the feed? oh, if you do know where this site is, by all means, share :)

thanks
daryl
