Unidata Python Mailing List

Python

The Unidata Program Center has created a new mailing list for the users of Python in the Unidata community: python-users. The focus of the new list is questions and discussion around the Siphon and MetPy projects, although other topics relevant to the use of Python are welcome. For more information, please visit our mailing list page and look under "python-users".

AMS Short Course on Data Management

AMS 2016

Data management mandates from federal funding agencies, professional societies, and publishers are becoming more common at all scales of research effort. To help researchers navigate the new requirements and implement effective, low-overhead data management workflows, Unidata is hosting an AMS Short Course on Data Management Planning and Implementation: Training on available open-source tools and services from the community and Unidata. The short course will be held the afternoon of Sunday, 10 January 2016, preceding the 96th AMS Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.

AMS Short Course on GIS for Atmospheric Sciences

If you're not attending Unidata's AMS Short Course on Data Management, you might be interested in the Short Course on GIS for Atmospheric Sciences being taught by instructors from the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the University of North Carolina. Both Short Courses take place on Sunday, 10 January 2016, preceding the 96th AMS Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.

CloudIDV: the Integrated Data Viewer in your web browser

CloudIDV

As part of the Unidata Program Center's continuing investigations into the use of Unidata technologies in cloud computing environments, UPC developers have created a version of the Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) that runs in a Docker container and displays the IDV interface in a web browser.

Unidata Staff at AGU Fall 2015 Meeting

Members of the Unidata Program Center staff will be attending the American Geophysical Union 2015 Fall meeting, December 14-18 2015, in San Francisco. The schedule included in the article lists specific sessions at which UPC staff will be in attendance.

On the Developer's Blog

Unidata Program Center developers write regularly on technical topics on the Unidata Developer's Blog. Most recently, developer Ward Fisher provides some technical details about the CloudIDV project.

Governing Committee News

Unidata's Users Committee met 30 September - 2 October, 2015, in Boulder, Colorado. The meeting summary will be available here in the near future. The next meeting will be held 11-12 April, 2016 in Boulder, CO.

Unidata's Strategic Advisory Committee (formerly the Policy Committee) met 30 September - 2 October, 2015, in Boulder, Colorado. The meeting summary will be available here in the near future. The next meeting held 7-8 April, 2016 at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg.
