I-Guide Virtual Workshop: Realtime Weather Information Visualization with MetPy
As part of the NSF Institute for Geospatial Understanding through an Integrative Discovery Environment (I-GUIDE) program's Virtual Consulting Office, Unidata MetPy developers Ryan May and Drew Camron lead an online workshop titled Realtime Weather Information Visualization using MetPy's Simplified Plotting Interface .
AWIPS Tips: Removing Model Data from EDEX

Abstract Deadlines for AMS, AGU Meetings
The 104th American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting in will be held 28 January - 1 February 2024 in Baltimore, MD. This year's theme is “Living in a Changing Environment.” The submission deadline for abstracts is 24 August 2023.
The American Geophysical Union's 2023 Fall Meeting in will be held 11-15 December 2023 in San Francisco, CA. This year's theme is “Wide. Open. Science.” The submission deadline for abstracts is 2 August 2023.
AWIPS Tips: Colorized GOES CIRA Products
This installment of AWIP Tips highlights a few colorized GOES products that are produced by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. The three products we’re looking at today are RGB (red-green-blue) combinations for Cloud-Snow Coverage, DEBRA Dust, and GeoColor images.
Welcome Summer Intern Jhamieka Greenwood
Jhamieka Greenwood joined the Unidata Program Center as a student summer intern on May 29, 2023. After receiving a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Florida A&M University, she worked with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection before earning a Master's degree in Computational Science from Florida State University (FSU). Jhamieka is now pursuing a PhD in Computational Science at FSU.
Welcome Summer Intern Jessica Souza
Jessica Souza joined the Unidata Program Center as a student summer intern on May 22, 2023. She completed her undergraduate in Meteorology at the University of São Paulo and her Master's degree in Atmospheric Science at Texas Tech University. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Geosciences with a minor in Mathematics at Texas Tech University.
Welcome Summer Intern Erin Rhoades
Erin Rhoades joined the Unidata Program Center as a student summer intern on May 22, 2023. She is a professional meteorology major pursuing a minor in mathematics; she is in her fourth undergraduate year at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU).
Call for abstracts: CF and netCDF session at 2023 AGU Fall Meeting
The American Geophysical Union's 2023 Fall Meeting in will be held 11-15 December 2023 in San Francisco, CA. This year's theme is “Wide. Open. Science.” The organizers of session IN017: CF and NetCDF: 30 Years of Wide Open Science encourage you to consider submitting an abstract for this session.
On the Developer's Blog
Unidata Program Center developers write regularly on technical topics on the Unidata Developer's Blog. The ongoing MetPy Mondays series looks at parsing surface bulletins, creating weather front maps, drawing weather fronts using mouse events in Matplotlib, and calculating and plotting height changes from the GFS.
Governing Committee News
Unidata's Users Committee met March 30-31, 2023 at the Unidata Program Center in Boulder, CO. The fall meeting will be a joint meeting with the Strategic Advisory Committee, scheduled for November 1-3, 2023 in Boulder, CO.
