Two Positions at NWS Office of Science and Technology Integration

NOAA is looking for a Meteorologist and a Physical Scientist to work in the National Weather Service (NWS), Office of Science and Technology Integration (OSTI) in Silver Spring, MD.

The application process for both positions is open through June 26, 2018.

The meteorologist hired will serve as the OSTI Program Lead for Forecasting a Continuum of Environmental Threats (FACETs) and Warn-on-Forecast. Duties will include:

  • Managing and providing oversight to Research-to-Operations (R2O) projects, including development of transition plans, budget formulation/execution and project reporting activities.
  • Coordinating the transition of R2O projects into NWS operations with the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), NWS headquarters Portfolio Offices, National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), Office of Water Prediction (OWP), and NWS Regions.
  • Supporting the OSTI R2O Lead in the administration of national R2O projects with NWS Science and Operations Officers (SOOs) and Development and Operations Hydrologists (DOHs) located at field offices across the United States.

The physical scientist hired will serve as the OSTI Program Lead for Multi-Radar/Multi-Sensor (MRMS) and Hydrology projects. Duties will include:

  • Managing and providing oversight to Research-to-Operations (R2O) projects, including development of transition plans, budget formulation/execution and project reporting activities.
  • Coordinating the transition of R2O projects into National Weather Service (NWS) operations with the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), National Weather Service (NWS) headquarters portfolio offices, the NWS Office of Water Prediction, NWS Regions and NWS River Forecast Centers.
  • Supporting the OSTI R2O Lead in the administration of national R2O projects with NWS Development and Operations Hydrologists (DOHs) and Science and Operations Officers (SOOs) located at field offices across the United States.
