Physical Scientist, Environmental Modeling Center

NOAA is searching for a Physical Scientist to work at the National Weather Service (NWS), National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) in College Park, MD.

The Physical Scientist will:

  • Provide technical leadership and project management for a team covering all facets of land surface and hydrological modeling, which supports the operational forecasting mission for land surface prediction.
  • Lead staff in multiple locations to prepare, coordinate with external partners, including academia, state and local authorities, and public groups, and present numerical model research and development activities.
  • Utilize modeling and data assimilation of satellite and conventional observations on global, regional, weather, and seasonal scales for land states and surface fluxes, including near-real-time as well as long-term land data sets.
  • Develop diagnostic studies for land model performance and data quality control and evaluation of modified land observing systems.
