NOAA is searching for two Techniques Development Meteorologists to work at the National Weather Service (NWS), National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), Aviation Weather Center (AWC) in Kansas City, MO.

A Techniques Development Meteorologist:

  • Develops, tests, and implements innovative scientific and software development techniques to improve NWS Aviation Weather Center (AWC) meteorological forecast operations.
  • Programs computers in a variety of languages to process diverse meteorological data sets for use by forecasters on automated display platforms, and for use by external users on web sites.
  • Diagnoses, evaluates, programs, and modifies numerical weather prediction model output to verify accuracy and provide forecasters training in systematic model errors and biases.
  • Represents AWC with internal, external, federal, research, and international partners on forecast testbed and demonstration projects to transition new forecast tools and methods into operations.
