The Royal Caribbean Group is looking for a Marine Meteorologist to join the company in the Miami, FL area. From the position summary:

The RCG Manager, Marine Meteorology will report to the RCG Chief Meteorologist. The job will primarily focus on critical weather vessel routing for the RCG global fleet for ocean voyages and port call visits to destinations around the globe. The role supports the safety and comfort of guests and crew through active weather forecast support and operational recommendations. The role includes creation and support of in-house numerical weather prediction tools to advance the field of maritime meteorology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for speaking and coordinating directly with the RCG global fleet including ship’s captains, brand Fleet Captains, and Chief Meteorologist to determine safest and least impactful voyage and port call visits when adverse weather is a factor.
  • Responsible for analysis and creation of local weather climatology for locations around the world utilizing machine learning and statistical databases.
  • Relies on prior experience to determine appropriate means of notifying teams of potentially dangerous weather systems.
  • Evaluates and manages weather related technical systems and planning tools for fleet operations and Newbuild projects.
  • Manages onboard weather training programs and guidance for shipboard teams.
  • Provides guidance and expertise to support the Energy Performance group for weather-related opportunities for fuel savings.
  • Provides weather-related support and guidance to the RCG global fleet as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or above in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences

Knowledge and Skills
  • Numerical weather prediction
  • Ability to work with ships across multiple time zones in multiple ocean basins around the globe
  • Ability to manage and prioritize vessel and itinerary impacts from critical weather events to include tropical cyclones, ocean storms, cold fronts, long period swell, excessive wind, etc.
  • Ability to work a non-standard weekly schedule
  • Ability to apply machine machine learning (AI) and statistical approach to climatological databases is a consideration
