MetPy Mondays #330 - Making a Stüve Plot
This MetPy Monday tutorial shows how to create a Stüve diagram in Python using MetPy’s new Stüve plotting tools. John demonstrates the full workflow, from retrieving a real upper-air sounding with Siphon to attaching units, plotting temperature and dewpoint, adding fiducial lines, wind barbs, and a parcel profile. The video explains how a Stüve diagram differs from a Skew-T, including its use of a scaled pressure axis and straight dry adiabats. It also notes that Stüve diagrams do not preserve visual area as a measure of CAPE or CIN, making them less common operationally but useful for teaching atmospheric thermodynamics. Using the May 20, 2013 central Oklahoma sounding, this episode gives viewers a practical and educational introduction to Stüve plots in MetPy.
