[netCDF #VBW-472144]: Writing compressed data in C++

Hi Olga,

Sorry it has taken so long to provide a response to your question.

The "experimental cxx4 API" in the current distribution will soon
be replaced by a contributed and rewritten C++ API for netCDF-4.
We expect that a test version of this new C++ API will be available
shortly after the 4.1 release, but we can't say for sure when that
will be. Given this planned replacement, it would be better to not
invest much effort in any large C++ implementations with the existing
cxx4 API, as they will have to be later adapted to the new C++ API.

Your best course currently might be to either make use of the C API
in your C++ program (the cxx4 code is just a thin layer on top of the
C API), or to modify the cxx4 code locally to add methods to pass the
compression flag to the C API.
