Howdy Charlie!

From my experiments in HDF5, it looks like there is no way to assign chunking
for a scalar, and you need chunking for compression (or any other filter) to
work.

So it looks like there is no way to deflate a scalar, just as you found in
NetCDF-4.

I am confirming this with the HDF5 guys, and have updated the documentation to
reflect it.
