To make it work in our system:
Linux ajax11 2.4.20-8 #1 Thu Mar 13 17:54:28 EST 2003 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

CC=/usr/bin/gcc
CFLAGS=-O
FC=/usr/bin/g77
FFLAGS=-O
CXX=/usr/bin/g++
we had problem in the C++ compilation, and did the following:
ncvalues.cpp : we replace the 2 occurrences of the statement
long save=os.flags();
with
ostream::fmtflags save=os.flags();
