The reason for this should be in the file "config.log" (below).

You appear to be trying to use the native C compiler together with the
GNU C++ compiler.  This is probably not a good idea -- aside from the
fact that the GNU C++ compiler appears to be faulty.  I suggest sticking
to the native compilers all the way or going with the GNU compilers all
the way.

If you're going to use the "fort77" compiler on a HP-UX 10 system, then
you need to have an argument after the "-O" option in the FFLAGS
environment variable (as shown in the HP-UX 10 example in the INSTALL
file).

Try the following:

    1.  Go to the top-level source directory.

    2.  Perform steps 2 through 5 near the end of the INSTALL file.

    3.  Ensure that the optimization option in the FFLAGS environment variable 
        is "-O3".

    4.  Perform steps 6 through 9 near the end of the INSTALL file.
