I'll try to reproduce the problem here.

I'll also forward this to Glenn Davis, the author of netCDF for Java,
who will be back here next Monday.  He's been hoping someone else would
try the RemoteNetcdf stuff, and I predict he'll be pleased to have a bug
report.
