The above line is the problem (remember I said that the variable OS
might be set in the environment).

Try the following:

    1.  Go to the top-level source directory.

    2.  Remove the file config.cache.

    3.  Execute the `configure' script with the environment variable OS
        set to the empty string.  For example, the following works for a
        POSIX-complient shell:

            $ OS= ./configure >configure.log 2>&1

        Be sure to trap standard output.

    4.  Look at the output.  The "checking type of operating system"
        line should indicate something like "sunos5".  If it doesn't,
        then stop and show me.

    5.  Execute the command `make'.

    6.  Execute the command `make test'.

    7.  Execute the command `make install'.

    8.  Execute the command `make clean'.
