The last two entries above show the problem.  For some reason, the
compiler is trying to link-in the file `/usr/people/mddevel/lib'.  I
suspect that you have the variable `LIBS' set to this value -- either in
your environment or in the file `CUSTOMIZE'.

Try unsetting that variable, deleting the file `config.cache' and
re-executing the `configure' script.
