An implementation of a subset of the XDR library will be placed into the
netCDF library by the installation procedure ONLY IF NECESSARY. On a
Solaris 2.5 system it is not necessary because an XDR implementation can
be found in the network support library `lib/libnsl.*'.

When linking netCDF-using programs that are not a part of the netCDF
package itself, it is necessary to reference the XDR library that
resides on the system. For example, something like the following would
be appropriate for linking the program `foo',

    $ cc -o foo foo.c -L/usr/local/lib -lnetcdf -lnsl

Add the `-lnsl' reference to your link lines.

Please let me know if this helps.
