Interesting problem. Apparently, this is due to a "fix" that shouldn't
have made it out our door. :-(
I suggest the following:
1. Undo the edits you made to try and get the package to work (but
keep the new maximum values in libsrc/netcdf.h).
2. Go to the nctest/ subdirectory.
3. Edit the file emalloc.c: remove the test for `size' being
greater than 32767 in both functions.
4. Go to the top-level source directory.
5. Execute `make all'.
6. Execute `make test'.
