I just successfully built the netCDF package under OpenVMS and ran the
command procedure `[.ncgen]test.com' after correcting two mistakes (the
filename `test0.' on the `rename' lines should, instead, be `test0.nc').
The OpenVMS system I used was the following

    $ show system
    OpenVMS V6.2  on node ACDURS  15-MAR-1996 16:52:49.18  Uptime  15 20:22:08
    ...
    $ sho cpu
    ACDURS, a MicroVAX 3100-80
    Multiprocessing is DISABLED. Uniprocessing synchronization image loaded.

    PRIMARY CPU = 00
    Active CPUs:      00
    Configured CPUs:  00

How does this system compare to yours?

Another thought occurs.  What C compiler do you use?  VAXC or DECC?
