Via anonymous FTP in the directory ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/
you can find the file irix64-alpha.tar.Z, which is an alpha-test version of
netCDF modified to work on IRIX 6.0.1. It's also mentioned in the WWW page
on "Known Problems with the netCDF Distribution", at

    http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf/known_problems.html

where the qualifications on our support for this release are stated:

    IRIX64

The current release of the netCDF package will not work under IRIX64,
which is a 64-bit operating system. We have developed a test version of
the netCDF package that appears to work correctly -- so far. This
version is not guaranteed to work under any other operating system (and
might still have problems under IRIX64). If you absolutely must have a
working netCDF package under IRIX64 and can't wait for the next release
(which will be version 2.4) then you can try using the IRIX64 test
version. It's available via the same mechanism as the current netCDF
distribution -- but its name is irix64-alpha.tar.Z.

Be advised that we won't support this version under any other operating
system: if you have a problem with it on a non-IRIX64 platform, we don't
want to hear about it. We're making this version available solely to
help those users with an immediate need.

Notwithstanding the above caveat, we are interested in feedback from
IRIX64 sites that are attempting to use this test package.
