I'm not sure what you mean by a data source. The IDV reads many different formats of data, both from local files and from remote servers.
I see from your error that you entered geon.unavco.edu. The GEON project has a number of data files that the IDV can access.
I am cc'ing Stu Wier (wier@xxxxxxxxxx) who is the GEON/Unavco technical lead for their IDV development. He may be able to point you in the right direction.
