20001031: 20001027: setting 8 bit color on DEC UNIX for GEMPAK

Doug,

Looking at the Xdec manpage, it appears that -vclass will
allow you to set the visuial class.

  -vclass[screen] visual class
Sets the visual class for the root window of the screen. Possible
values are StaticGray, StaticColor, PseudoColor, GrayScale, TrueColor,
      and DirectColor.

If you don't have /etc/dt, then try /usr/dt/config as the directory
(otherwise /usr/lib/X11/config).

The file is Xservers:
#
# Examples:
#

# LocalHostName:0 <class> local@console /usr/bin/X11/X :0 <options>
# LocalHostName:1 <class> local@none /usr/bin/X11/X :1 <options>
# XTerminalName:0 <class> foreign

#
#
# Note: A "*" in the first field of the entry for a local server
# will be expanded to "<hostname>:0" by Dtlogin. This
# syntax is valid only within this file.
#
############################################################################

   :0 Local local@console /usr/bin/X11/X :0

------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can set vclass above as:

:0 Local local@console /usr/bin/X11/X :0 -vclass0 PseudoColor
