This report updates the status of Unidata's IDV development
efforts since the last report (July, 2007).
IDV version 2.3 was released on August 15, 2007, and can be
downloaded at
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/idv/.
This release focused primarily on performance improvements
since most of the developer time over the previous 4 months was
being spent on preparing for workshops.
A more complete list of new features can be found in the
IDV 2.3 Release Notes, but a few hightlights are:
The ADDE data choosers now have a timeline selector similar
to the NMAP2 time chooser.
Support was added for easier selection of multibanded images.
Experimental remote Level II chooser from a THREDDS data server
was released as a plugin until the server work is completed
Yuan has been having discussions with the Tropical Research Center
in Shanghai, China on the development of a Tropical IDV.
They would provide funding for necessary framework changes
and training, but much of the development would be done there.
An Introduction to IDV (16 participants) and an
Advanced IDV workshop (14 participants) was
held August 1-4.
Don and Jeff provided several IDV training sessions at the
regional workshop held at University of Oklahoma in September.
The reviews were very positive with the major complaint of not
having more IDV sessions.
New development
Development and testing are underway for the next release of
the IDV (2.4) which should be released in Fall 2007 in time
for the AMS meeting in January, 2008. Features for this release
may include:
More diagnostic capabilities
Interactive Jython shell
Improved caching of grids and images for faster display creation.
Display properties system for preconfiguring displays.
Non-experimental remote Level II Radar access
Bug fixes and suggest improvements noted a the workshops.
