The netCDF-Java ucar.nc2.util.DiskCache2 class method for generating unique file names is capable of producing identical names if called in quick succession. While the circumstances under which the problem occurs are very specific (and rare), because the possibility of data corruption exists the development team strongly recommends that anyone using netCDF-Java/CDM or TDS upgrade immediately.

Netcdf-Java version 5.3.2 is now available, and includes several bug fixes, 3rd party dependency updates, and more steps towards the creation of a public API, as well as new capability for reading CDM datasets stored in any AWS S3 API compatible object store.

The NetCDF-Java Library is undergoing extensive development to bring it up to current standards of software engineering, and to make it compatible with ongoing changes and improvements in the JVM and Java platform. One of the first steps in the process is to clarify the NetCDF-Java public API, and we are looking for feedback.

The NetCDF-Java/Common Data Model (CDM) library version 4.5.5 was released on March 6, 2015. The development team recommends this upgrade for anyone using the CDM. (THREDDS Data Server (TDS) version 4.5.5 is also available as a beta-test release.)
