The American Meteorological Society has announced that the 102st annual meeting, to be held 22-27 January 2022, will be held virtually rather than in the hybrid format previously envisioned. See the 102nd Annual Meeting Update (1.6.2022) for details.
Unidata staff who were planning to present in person at the annual meeting are in the process of making arrangements for virtual participation. Plans for Unidata participation in events scheduled as part of the Student Conference will be finalized soon.
Members of the Unidata Program Center staff will be attending the 102st annual American Meteorology Society meeting, to be held 22-27 January 2022 in Houston, TX. The schedule below lists sessions or posters presented by staff members.
Note: AMS is closely monitoring news and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the World Health Organization, and local health agencies to ensure the health and safety of those who attend in-person in Houston. See their COVID-19 Update for the most current information.
Members of the Unidata Program Center staff will be attending the 101st annual American Meteorology Society meeting, to be held virtually 9-15 January 2021. The schedule below lists sessions or posters presented by staff members. It also lists times when we'll be available to chat in our AMS Virtual Booth.
Note: while the larger UCAR organization has an official booth in the virtual exhibit hall, Unidata has chosen a system we think makes video chat interactions a little easier. We've set up a separate site that allows you to join us via the Airmeet virtual events platform. We hope you'll stop by with questions, or just to chat, during our exhibit hours.
This year's annual American Meteorological Society meeting was held 12-16 January 2020 in Boston, Massachusetts. Unidata Program Center staff were happy to be able to attend as presenters of talks and posters, conveners of sessions, and facilitators of workshops and short courses for students, educators, and researchers. Staff members also spent time meeting community members in the new exhibit hall booth bringing together a variety of UCAR and NCAR programs in one space. As always, we were also glad to meet so many prospective community members at the AMS Student Conference.
With so much going on at the conference, we can't cover everything here. Instead, we present some highlights as recalled by UPC staff members who attended.
The 2019 Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) National Diversity in STEM Conference was held October 31 - November 2 in Honolulu, Hawai'i. This is the largest multidisciplinary and multicultural STEM diversity event in the country, and Unidata was fortunate to be able to send staff member Jeff Weber to attend. Jeff was able to make valuable connections for Unidata and for the UCAR Community Programs (UCP) in general.
This year's annual American Meteorological Society meeting, was held January 6-10 in Phoenix, Arizona. While we missed interacting with those in our community who could not attend due to the shutdown of the Federal government, we were happy to see many others participating in the meeting and at our booth in the exhibit hall. As always, we were also glad to meet so many prospective community members at the AMS Student Conference.

The abstract submission deadline for the 18th Annual AMS Student Conference (5-6 January 2019) is approaching! The theme is “Weathering Together: Building a Climate of Diverse Community Perspectives.” All current AMS student members are encouraged to submit their abstracts for the conference poster session by 2 October 2018.
The 2018 AGU Fall Meeting will be held 10-14 December 2018 in Washington, DC. This year the Earth and Space Science Informatics (ESSI) section will include several sessions that may be of special interest to Unidata community members interested in bringing new workflows and increased engagment in cyberinfrastructure efforts to the geosciences.
The sessions are:
IN015: Cloud-based workflows for reproducible research and education in geoscience
IN033: Enabling Cloud Applications for Earth Science Data
IN039: Goldilocks and Geoscience; Cyberinfrastructure: Challenges and Opportunities for Increasing Engagement of Geoscientists in Cyberinfrastructure Efforts, and Finding the balance between community-led efforts and top-down direction
