The Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) version 6.3 is available now. This is a major release and is recommended for all users. It can be downloaded from the NSF Unidata downloads site.
The Unidata Program Center's three summer student interns — Hassanpreet Dhaliwal from Texas Tech University, Rhoen Fiutak from the Colorado School of Mines, and Nathaniel Martinez from the University of Chicago — have come to the end of their summer appointments. Following two years of COVID-19 travel restrictions, Hassanpreet, Rhoen, and Nathaniel were able to join us at the Unidata Program Center in Boulder. After a summer of dedicated work they presented the results of their projects to the UPC staff on July 27, 2022. Users of the Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) are encouraged to update their installations to version 6.0 or later as soon as possible. Changes in the UCAR/Unidata web infrastructure may cause earlier versions of the IDV to perform sluggishly.
The current version of the package is 6.0u1 (update 1); it is available for download from the IDV Downloads page. Information about features in the IDV 6.0 release is available in What's New in IDV 6.0.
The Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) version 6.0 is now available. This release features a new grid coverage data type that eases the process of creating spatial subsets that cross grid boundaries, enhancements to the IDV's volume rendering engine, and improvements to the quality of images captured from the display. Under-the-hood improvements include a switch to the OpenJDK Java libraries and updated software certificates. In addition, this release includes updates to existing features and incorporates the latest netCDF-Java library.

IDV 6.0 includes a new version of the OpenJDK Java distribution, version 5.4.2 of the netCDF-Java library, and enhanced application certificates and notarization. Enhancements to the IDV display include better grid coverage and cross-boundary subsetting, a enhanced volume rendering features, better text/HTML display, improved image capture quality, and more.

This release features enhanced color tables, support for NWS Hazard Warning KML files, enhanced support for vertical profiles, and several new formulas. In addition, the release includes updates to existing features and incorporates the latest netCDF-Java library.
