Version 4.7.0 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.

Version 4.5.0 of the netCDF-C library is now available. The largest focus of this release has been the inclusion of the DAP4 protocol. See the Release Notes for additional information on using DAP4.

GEMPAK 7.4.0 is available as source code and binary packages for CentOS 6, CentOS 7, Fedora Core (26), and Ubuntu Linux (16.04).

Unidata AWIPS 17.1.1 is now available for Red Hat/CentOS 6/7 and macOS. Please see the AWIPS User Manual for installation instructions: https://unidata.github.io/awips2/

This is a major release which includes support for GOES-16(R) ABI and GLM and a retooling of WarnGen for non-operational use.

GEMPAK version 7.3.2 is available as source code and 64-bit RHEL/CentOS binaries build with and without AWIPS Python.

The University of Wisconsin, Madison will be hosting a three-day Unidata Regional Software Training Workshop June 5-7, 2017, with an optional hackathon following on June 8. Unidata software developers will be leading the Python-focused workshop, which will cover the use of the MetPy and Siphon packages in the context of atmospheric science and introduce the National Weather Service's Common AWIPS Visualization Environment (CAVE) along with Python tools for working with AWIPS data services. A basic familiarity with Python is assumed — check out the Unidata Online Python Training for a refresher.

Unidata holds regional workshops in part to facilitate easy access to software training for those who may not be able to travel to training workshops held at the Unidata Program Center in Boulder, Colorado. Attendance is explicitly not limited to University of Wisconsin students and staff; we encourage those within easy travel distance to consider attending.

The NetCDF-Java/Common Data Model (CDM) library and THREDDS Data Server (TDS) version 4.6.10 releases were finished on April 19th, 2017.
