Version 5.0.4 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.
Welcome back to AWIPS Tips! This week's topic is another exploration into one of the many features of CAVE's Volume Browser. In previous Volume Browser tips, we've covered Plan Views, Cross Sections, and Time Series, and this week is all about generating model soundings. CAVE can generate a sounding from any point using output from several different models.
The Unidata Program Center is hiring! We are looking for a scientific software developer to join our team in creating and maintaining software and data services to support the geosciences.
We are looking for a software developer to help support Unidata's use of the National Science Foundation's Jetstream OpenStack cloud computing platform. In this position, you'll develop, test, document, and maintain cloud-centric technologies that underlie the Unidata Science Gateway. Along the way, you'll have the chance to help colleagues and collaborators in geoscience education and research roles by deploying technologies on the Science Gateway that further their objectives.
Users of the THREDDS Data Server (TDS) are strongly encouraged to update the configuration files on their servers as soon as possible, and before they next restart their servers. Changes in the UCAR/Unidata web infrastructure will cause Web Map Service (WMS) features provided by the TDS to behave incorrectly.
We are announcing a new eLearning course covering the fundamentals of CAVE called Learn AWIPS CAVE. This is an asynchronous web course that can be accessed on demand. This course is designed for new users of CAVE and includes demonstrations, tutorials, activities, assessments, and challenges using CAVE functionality. The activities are designed with undergraduate meteorology students in mind but are suitable for any post-secondary education level.
Users of the Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) are encouraged to update their installations to version 6.0 or later as soon as possible. Changes in the UCAR/Unidata web infrastructure may cause earlier versions of the IDV to perform sluggishly.
The current version of the package is 6.0u1 (update 1); it is available for download from the IDV Downloads page. Information about features in the IDV 6.0 release is available in What's New in IDV 6.0.
Version 5.0.3 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.
The NCO project is coordinated by Professor Charlie Zender of the Department of Earth System Science, University of California, Irvine. More information about the project, along with binary and source downloads, are available on the SourceForge project page.
Welcome back to AWIPS Tips! Today's tip is all about productivity and saving time. Do you have a series of products you always use, or combinations of resources you always select from the Volume Browser or Product Browser? Do you always change the appearance of certain products? Have you ever wanted to share a group of configured resources with a colleague or friend? If yes, look no further than Displays and Procedures in CAVE. Displays and Procedures allow you to save resources that you can reload into CAVE or share with others.
