[netCDF #FBX-666550]: Netcdf installation help

Can I suggest that you get the latest version of netCDF? The one you have there
was released some years ago, and there have been improvements to the build
system that should make things easier.

I recommend you get the latest release, netCDF-4.0.1:
ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf-4.0.1.tar.gz

Install it according to the instructions here:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/docs/netcdf-install/Quick-Instructions.html#Quick-Instructions

It sounds like you don't need netCDF-4/HDF5 features, so you don't need to
install HDF5 or zlib.

For special instructions for the PGI compilers, see their page on how to build
netCDF. You must set the flags as they instruct:
